PhD student Committee

Background and vision

A strong PhD network

Our mission is to provide PhD students with an environment conducive to socialization, technical exchange, and peer networking within wind energy research in an informal and collaborative setting.

This year marks a significant milestone as the PhD Committee assumes a more active role within the European Academy of Wind Energy (EAWE). At the most recent EAWE PhD seminar in Visby, Sweden, committee membership expanded to over 30 members from universities across Europe and the U.S., reflecting a broad spectrum of experience in three key dimensions: institutional affiliation, ethnic background, and research focus. While wind energy serves as the unifying field, the breadth of perspectives and expertise fosters a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach toward advancing the Wind Energy field.

The PhD Committee plays a crucial role in this effort by offering a welcoming space where students from varied backgrounds can collaborate and grow—both individually and as a collective. This commitment to collaboration and mutual development lies at the heart of EAWE’s vision for advancing wind energy research.

Objectives and current projects

  • Well defining the Committee’s new Structure via a mission statement and goal setting
  • Planning and launching of the Online Exchange Forum
    • Online Exchange Forum: an online resource hosted by EAWE for PhDs to share technical resources, discuss problems, and ask for help on Wind Energy related research matters.
  • Creating a PhD Committee constitution
    • Formal description of every committee position including responsibilities and authority.
    • Creating a voting/serving period plan for future iterations of the committee.
  • Organizing quarterly/bimonthly seminar style events for PhD students to present their work among their peers and get feedback.
  • Organizing a panel of Wind Energy experts from Academia and Industry to share their experience transition from being a PhD Candidate to their roles in their respective fields
